Scholarships

One of the credit union's more recent priorities is a focus on youth. To this end the credit union offers three types of scholarships:

  • The North Winnipeg Credit Union Scholarship of $1000 each is awarded to two high school graduates pursuing a secondary education at a university, community college or trade school.
  • The North Winnipeg Credit Union Scholarship at the University of Manitoba of $500 is awarded to a graduate student with the highest academic record in a Ukrainian Studies course in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Manitoba. This scholarship has been provided by the credit union for over twenty years.
  • The Andrij and Iwanna Kachor Scholarship designed to encourage academic excellence in the pursuit of Ukrainian studies at the high school level in a Saturday Ukrainian School Program. NWCU awards two such scholarships of $250 each to a graduating student with the highest academic record at Ukrainian Reading Association "Prosvita" School and Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral School.
  • The Walter J. MacKay Scholarship was initiated by the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation. This scholarship was created to honour Walter J. McKay for his thirty years of dedicated service with the Corporation. Annually, the Corporation will provide bursaries of $500 each to two graduating students nominated by credit unions. The bursaries will be awarded based on academic achievement, financial need and school activities and be provided to students planning to further their education towards a career in the financial field through a post-secondary or professional program.
